The great escape looked impossible for Wolves just a few weeks ago.
Granted, it’s still a million miles away but the signs in recent weeks are positive that they can put together a bit of a fight in the second half of the season – albeit they sit 14 points from safety at the minute.
They’re now unbeaten in four games having drawn away at Old Trafford and Everton and recorded 3-0 and 6-1 thumping victories over West Ham and then Shrewsbury in the cup.
The signs are a bit more positive but their run of fixtures puts them against Newcastle (H), Man City (A), Bournemouth (H) and then Chelsea (H) so home advantage has to come into it.
And that starts with this game against Eddie Howe’s side, who have had a mixed couple of weeks.
A 4-3 win over Leeds brought elation at St James’ Park with the late, late goal before another high moment when beating Bournemouth on penalties in the FA Cup after a 3-3 draw.
But it was doom and gloom in midweek when they lost the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi final with Manchester City, when they likely had to take a lead to the Etihad.
Particularly when you take into account their away form, with two wins, one draw and six defeats in their last six away from home.
