Drama as Obidient Movement rebrands, sacks Peter Obi, others

Fresh political tension has emerged ahead of the 2027 general elections following the reported disbandment of the Obidient Movement and the expulsion of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside his close associate, Yunusa Tanko.

The development was announced on Thursday by a group of stakeholders who accused the former movement leadership of allegedly turning the platform into a tool for “personal advantage and private gains.”

At a press briefing in Abuja, the group disclosed that the Obidient Movement has now been rebranded as the Obedient Movement in a move aimed at distancing the organisation from Obi and his loyalists.

The newly unveiled movement also announced the immediate dissolution of all leadership structures that emerged after the 2023 presidential election, including appointments made under what it described as an “unauthorised leadership structure.”

Speaking during the briefing, the International Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, Barry Avotu Johnson, stated that the organisation has not endorsed any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Johnson further clarified that the movement has also ended every form of relationship with the Labour Party, insisting that the rebranding became necessary because the original ideals of the Obidient movement were allegedly no longer being represented after the 2023 polls.

According to him, the decision was taken to restore the founding vision of the movement and reposition it ahead of future political engagements.
