A matchmaker has sparked debate online after calling out a 42-year-old woman whose marriage plans fell apart after her family presented what he described as an expensive bride price list.
According to him, he had worked hard to connect the woman with a man who was genuinely interested in marrying her.
However, things reportedly took a different turn when discussions about the bride price began.
In his words, he said:
“You’re 42 years old, and I managed to get you a man. He asked for bride price, and your parents are bringing almost ₦12 million plus as bride price list. Forty-two years old, no children, never been married, and you have mind to be asking for such amount as bride price.”
He claimed the huge bride price demand came as a surprise and may have discouraged the prospective groom from moving forward with the relationship.
The matchmaker further revealed that the woman later complained that the man had stopped communicating with her and was no longer responding to her calls after the marriage discussions.
“Now you’re telling me that you’ve been calling him, he’s not picking your calls and has blocked you. I know what I went through before connecting you with that man.
Forty-two years old oo. Now it’s clear that your village people are the ones doing you,” he added.
The story has since generated mixed reactions online, with some blaming the bride price demand, while others defended the family’s decision.
One user wrote, “₦12 million for bride price is too much. No wonder the man run.” Another commented, “Families have the right to set their requirements. If he truly wanted her, he would have negotiated.”
