A man has sparked widespread debate on social media after declaring that adults should stop eating bread, arguing that modern wheat has been altered in ways that make it unhealthy for human consumption.
The man made the remarks in a viral video, where he claimed that both men and women should avoid bread because of changes made to wheat over the years.
Claims about genetically modified wheat
According to him, his opinion was based on what he described as the history of wheat production rather than a personal bias against bread.
He alleged that wheat underwent significant genetic modification from the 1960s, claiming that the process removed key components that previously made it nutritious.
The speaker said healthy parts of wheat, including the bran and fibre, were removed, while other characteristics were introduced to increase agricultural yields.
He further argued that the same changes that allegedly boosted wheat production also made it unsafe for people to consume.
In his words: “A grown-up man has no business eating bread. I mean you’re a grown-up, you have no business eating bread. Not only a man, a grown-up woman.”
He added: “The issue is that I didn’t just come out and say it. I went from the history of what happened to wheat and at the time what happened from 1960s when wheat was genetically modified and through the genetic modification process they removed the things that made wheat healthy.
The bran, the fibre, all those that made it healthy and they infused other things that made it so that they can have bigger yields and the thing that gave you bigger yields also made it dangerous for human consumption.”
