Man United lead Arsenal in race to sign Ederson from Atalanta

AdminBy AdminMay 5, 2026Updated:May 6, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

Manchester United are currently leading the race to sign Atalanta’s Ederson, ahead of other top clubs including Arsenal, according to prominent Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.

The 26-year-old Brazilian, who has been a standout performer in Serie A, is increasingly likely to head to Old Trafford this summer.

While Atletico Madrid were previously considered the frontrunners, United’s financial muscle and a lucrative contract offer have shifted the momentum firmly in their favor.

Speaking via Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Moretto revealed that several Premier League sides have stepped up their interest.

However, the Red Devils have made the most significant move, reportedly offering a salary that surpasses the proposals currently on the table from Spain.

Moretto said: “I can tell you that Manchester United are currently the club that has shown the most interest, offering around €4.5 million net per year.

“Arsenal have also made enquiries, though Ederson is not a priority for them. Right now, United appear to have the strongest financial capacity.”

While a personal agreement seems closer, United still face the task of negotiating a transfer fee with Atalanta.

The Italian side is known to be tough negotiators and is expected to demand a high fee, likely in the region of £39 million (€45-50m), for their midfield engine.

Man United need to bolster the midfield this summer

The pursuit of Ederson comes at a critical time for Manchester United’s midfield.

Following a season of transition under Michael Carrick, the club is preparing for a significant clearing of the decks.

Manuel Ugarte is expected to be sold after failing to cement a regular starting spot, while veteran Casemiro has decided to leave the club at the end of this season, with interest from the MLS.

With Kobbie Mainoo recently signing a new long-term deal until 2031, United have secured a generational talent to build around.

However, the departures mean, United will need to bring in replacements.

To bolster the squad for their return to the Champions League, United are reportedly looking to sign at least two midfielders.
