Danny Murphy has been left amazed by Mikel Arteta’s decision to substitute Riccardo Calafiori during Arsenal’s high-stakes clash against West Ham.

Speaking on BBC MOTD, Murphy did not hide his confusion over the tactical tweak. Calafiori had been one of Arsenal’s primary attacking threats in the opening 45 minutes, twice coming close to breaking the deadlock, once denied by a brilliant Konstantinos Mavropanos block and again during a goalmouth scramble.
The substitution was more of a forced defensive reshuffle after Ben White suffered a knee injury early on in the game.
Arteta initially moved Declan Rice to right-back, but with that not working out, he introduced Cristhian Mosquera to take the right-back slot in the second half, which allowed Rice to move back to midfield and Lewis-Skelly to the left-back.
