U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that American and Nigerian forces allegedly carried out a joint operation targeting a senior ISIS leader in Africa.
In a statement shared online, Trump claimed that the operation successfully eliminated Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom he described as the second-in-command of ISIS globally and one of the group’s most active terrorists.
According to the former president, the mission was conducted in partnership with the Nigerian Armed Forces and was based on intelligence gathered about the suspect’s activities in Africa.
Trump stated that the operation would significantly weaken ISIS’s global network and reduce threats against both Africans and Americans.
He also thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation in the operation and praised the military forces involved.

“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield. Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing. He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans. With his removal, ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished.
