Phoebe Dynevor-Led Film Moves to Netflix After Losing Its Sony Theatrical Release

Filmmaker Tommy Wirkola‘s untitled forthcoming feature is hoping to make a splash on Netflix after losing its theatrical release from Sony Pictures.

The project stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick serving as producers. Netflix is planning a launch for later this year.

Sony had initially slated the thriller, which was formerly known as Shiver, for theatrical release on Aug. 1, 2025, before announcing last year that the movie had shifted to July 3, 2026. Plot details have not been shared, but previous reports about the project have noted the involvement of sharks.

This movie heads to the streamer as part of its first-look deal with Sony for direct-to-streaming projects. Earlier this week, Sony continued its relationship with Netflix through a global Pay-1 licensing dealfor Sony features to stream on Netflix worldwide after their theatrical and home media windows.

The companies have previously collaborated on Sony Pictures Animation’s Mitchells vs the Machines, which has a sequel in the works. Among the recent projects to have been part of the studio’s streaming deal with Netflix include 3000 Pictures’ People We Meet on Vacation and Sony Pictures Animation’sK-Pop Demon Hunters, with the latter now the streamer’s most-watched film ever.

Wirkola is known for helming such films asDead Snow,Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters andWhat Happened to Monday. He directs Violent Night 2, the sequel to his 2022 Christmas-themed action movie, which is set to his theaters Dec. 4 from Universal Pictures and sees David Harbour reprise his role as Santa Claus.

Dynevor is known for her work on Bridgerton and in such films as Fair Play and Anniversary.
