Suspected bandits launched a violent attack on Biyabiki village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Saturday, April 12, setting fire to a Juma’at mosque, a Primary Healthcare Centre, and at least 10 residential homes, local sources have confirmed.

The assault, which occurred around 8:00 p.m., is believed to be a retaliatory strike by armed followers of infamous bandit kingpin Adamu Aliero.

The attack comes nearly three weeks after the death of Aliero’s younger brother, Isuhu Yellow, and his son during a botched ambush on security forces in the nearby Keta area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants stormed Biyabiki in large numbers and began torching structures without engaging in direct violence against villagers or carrying out any abductions.

“They didn’t kill or kidnap anyone, but they made their message clear by burning down key parts of our village,” one resident said. “They torched our mosque, the community clinic, and several homes. The attack went on for nearly an hour.”

Earlier that same day, the same group reportedly attacked Tsageru village, setting fire to more homes in what appears to be a coordinated offensive targeting multiple communities.

Residents fear the violence is part of a broader revenge campaign following the deaths of Aliero’s family members. “Since Isuhu Yellow’s death, we’ve been living in fear.

These attacks feel like part of a calculated effort to punish our communities,” a local said.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the attacks.
