Why do brethren with cars refuse to give lifts after church? — Lady questions church habit

A lady has sparked discussion online after questioning the attitude of some church members who drive to service but reportedly refuse to offer lifts to others heading in the same direction.

Church transport etiquette sparks debate

The conversation gained traction earlier this week after her statement circulated on social media, drawing mixed reactions from worshippers and observers who weighed in on expectations within religious communities.

The issue reflects a broader conversation that has surfaced in Nigerian churches over the years, with similar concerns raised as far back as 2023 about hospitality, fellowship, and practical support among congregants after services, especially in urban cities where transportation costs continue to rise.

Community expectations and social responsibility

Many users interpreted the lady’s comment as a call for increased kindness and communal support among church members, especially in environments where people share similar routes home.

Others, however, argued that offering lifts is a personal choice and should not be expected as a religious obligation.

“Why is it that brethren who come to church with their vehicles hardly give others a lift after service, even when they are heading the same way?” the lady asked, highlighting what she described as a growing lack of post-service fellowship in practical terms.

While opinions remain divided, the discussion has reopened conversations about how modern church communities balance convenience, safety concerns, and expressions of generosity in everyday interactions.
