PSG 5-4 Bayern Munich: Parisiens survive classic Champions League tie

Paris Saint-Germain secured a narrow advantage over Bayern Munich after a dramatic 5-4 victory in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Parc des Princes.

The encounter lived up to expectations between two of Europe’s most prolific attacking sides, producing nine goals in a high-tempo contest that remains finely balanced ahead of the return leg in Germany.

First-half chaos sets tone

The match exploded into life early, with Harry Kane giving Bayern the lead from the penalty spot after a foul on Luis Diaz.

PSG responded minutes after through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who cut inside to finish precisely into the far corner.

Momentum shifted again when Joao Neves headed PSG in front, only for Michael Olise to produce a moment of individual brilliance to level the contest.

A controversial turning point arrived in stoppage time when referee Sandro Scharer awarded PSG a penalty after reviewing a handball involving Alphonso Davies.

Ousmane Dembele converted to give the hosts a 3-2 lead at the break.

PSG surge, Bayern respond

PSG extended their advantage in the second half as Kvaratskhelia added his second following a delivery from Achraf Hakimi, before Dembele struck again to open up a three-goal cushion.

Bayern, however, refused to collapse. Dayot Upamecano pulled one back with a flicked finish, and Diaz later reduced the deficit further after being set up by Kane.

Despite PSG’s attacking dominance, Bayern’s late goals ensure the tie remains open heading into the second leg in Munich on May 6.

The winner of the tie will advance to the final in Budapest, where they will face either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid.
