A social media user has sparked debate after sharing the story of a woman who refused to pay a commercial motorcycle rider’s medical bills after he was involved in an accident shortly after delivering food to her.
According to the narrator, the rider had successfully delivered the woman’s food before crashing just a few streets away. He was reportedly rushed to a hospital for treatment, where his relatives later demanded that the customer contribute towards his medical expenses.
The claim has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians divided over whether the woman bears any responsibility for the rider’s injuries.
Rider’s relatives demand medical support
Sharing the account, the man said the woman immediately visited the hospital after learning about the accident.
He wrote, “So this lady sent her bike man to get food for her this morning.”
He added, “After delivering the food, he had an accident just a few streets away and was rushed to the hospital.”
According to him, the rider’s relatives insisted the woman should cover a significant portion of the medical bills, including CT scans and chest X-rays, because the accident occurred while the rider was running an errand for her.
Woman rejects responsibility as debate grows
The man further stated, “The lady is arguing that it’s unfair, that the bike man had already delivered her food and as such, she owed him nothing in the real sense.”
He added that the woman reportedly left the hospital after telling the family to involve the police if they wished.
The story has since fuelled discussions on social media, with some users arguing that helping would be a moral gesture, while others insisted she had no legal obligation since the delivery had already been completed. The claims remain unverified.
