Chelsea’s clash against Nottingham Forest has descended into a full-blown crisis at Stamford Bridge.
While the Blues entered the match as heavy favorites, the first 45 minutes have been nothing short of a catastrophe, compounded by a sickening injury to teenage debutant Jesse Derry just before the interval.

Jesse Derry stretchered off as Cole Palmer misses penalty

However, during a stoppage-time aerial duel in the penalty area, Derry suffered a horrific clash of heads with Forest defender Zach Abbott.

The injury incident actually resulted in a lifeline for the Blues, as referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot following the collision.
In a moment that summed up Chelsea’s luckless half, Palmer, who has been the club’s most reliable asset since joining from Man City, saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Matz Sels.
The miss left the Stamford Bridge faithful in stunned silence, realising that even from twelve yards out, the Blues still can’t score a goal in the Premier League as their league drought continues.
Liam Delap was introduced as a concussion substitute for the stricken Derry, but the psychological blow of the injury and the penalty miss was evident as the teams headed into the tunnel.

Chelsea trailing 2-0 against a weaker Nottingham Forest side
To make matters worse for Chelsea’s interim manager Calum McFarlane, the scoreline reflects a defensive shambles.
Despite Forest rotating their squad due to their ongoing Europa League commitments, they took the lead after just two minutes through Taiwo Awoniyi.
The misery was doubled in the 15th minute when Igor Jesus converted from the spot after Malo Gusto was penalized for a clumsy challenge.
Chelsea have dominated possession, but against a second-string Forest side, they have looked devoid of ideas and fragile at the back.
