Fashion’s biggest night took place in New York City on Monday.
And as usual, the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan was out in full force at the Met Gala.
Kim and company seem to compete with one another for center stage, and this year, it was Kylie’s turn to steal the spotlight.
Yes, while boyfriend Timothee Chalamet skipped the event to watch his beloved New York Knicks annihilate the Philadelphia 76ers, Kylie worked the red carpet in a Schiaparelli gown that gave the effect of nudity.
In actuality, however, the gown required “11,000 hours of embroidery work, incorporating 2,000 satin stitch balls, 10,000 natural baroque pearls and more than 7,000 painted pearlescent fish scales,” according to a press release obtained by Page Six.
The gown was also equipped with fake nipples to complete the nudity effect.
Kylie’s daring look received mixed reviews on social media.
“Hated the hair. Loved the gown. Very clever design,” wrote the Instagram user who shared the photo above.
“What happened? It’s pretty but did the top part fall down?” a commenter asked.
Kylie’s hair and makeup were as divisive as the dress, and in a pre-gala Instagram Story, she joked that she had “ruined” her eyebrows.
“My brows are ruined,” she said while laughing (via Page Six).
“What is this? What the f–k is this?” Kylie jokingly asked. “This looks horrible. This looks horrible.”
We assume she felt better about the finished product.
The Met Gala is a very big deal in Kylie’s life — even if her boyfriend decided to skip it for the Knicks the past two years in a row.
If we had to guess, we would say that Kylie would probably rank 2022 as the year of her most meaningful gala.
That was the night when she paid tribute to the late designer Virgil Abloh.
“Virgil and i were supposed to go to the Met together before it got postponed in 2020,” Kylie wrote on Instagram at the time. “To celebrate V tonight and his incredible legacy truly means the world to me.”
The Met Gala can often feel like an excuse for fabulously wealthy people to put on outrageous outfits. But it’s important to bear in mind that the evening benefits the arts, and much of the clothing on display was crafted by true artists.
