No more darkness: Lagos community to enjoy 24/7 power supply

AdminBy AdminMay 11, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

  • Isolo Power Gen Limited has secured approval from LASERC to develop a 9MW embedded power project
  • The project will generate and distribute electricity directly through a localised network
  • About 40 additional electricity projects are still awaiting approval to produce power independently

Legit.ng journalist Dave Ibemere has over a decade of experience in business journalism, with in-depth knowledge of the Nigerian economy, stocks, and general market trends.

Residents and businesses in Isolo and surrounding communities in Lagos State are set to enjoy improved electricity supply as Isolo Power Gen Limited secured approval to develop a 9-megawatt embedded power generation facility under the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC).

The company is the only operator granted an embedded generation licence in the current batch of 14 approved companies.

An embedded generation licence is permission for a private operator to build, own and operate a power plant that is physically attached to the distribution network, not the national high-voltage system.

Isolo community to enjoy power supply

According to LASERC documents, the Isolo Power Gen Limited facility will be located at 110/114 Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Isolo, Lagos.

The project will operate at a capacity of 9MW and provide electricity to Isolo and neighbouring communities through a localised distribution system to ensure a more reliable, near-continuous power supply.

The model is designed to improve power stability for host communities by supplying electricity closer to consumers, reducing transmission losses and grid-related disruptions.

Ownership of the project includes Westfield Assets Limited, Camara Exim Limited, Chellarams Plc, and Suresh Chellaram.

Further review of the documents showed that about 40 additional applications are still undergoing approval across embedded generation, captive power, and mini-grid categories, highlighting increasing investor interest in decentralised electricity projects in Lagos.

Among the pending embedded generation projects are a 10MW proposal by Alaro Power Free Zone Enterprise in Epe, a 24MW project by Takwa Bay Green Power Free Zone Enterprise in Apapa, a 30MW facility proposed by Geogrid Lightech Ltd in Agidingbi, and a 50MW project by Irele Energy LFZ Enterprise in Ibeju-Lekki.

Lagos pushes for decentralised power

LASERC was established following the Lagos Electricity Law 2024, which replaced the state’s 2018 electricity reform framework and created an independent electricity market for Lagos State.

In March 2026, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the LASERC board, formally activating the commission’s regulatory oversight of electricity generation, distribution, and tariffs in the state.

The reform followed the 2023 constitutional amendment that empowered states to regulate and operate their own electricity markets independently of the federal system.

EKEDC power outage

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Lagos State, including Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Idumagbo, Obalende, Awolowo Road, and surrounding areas.

The outage is due to scheduled maintenance work at the Alagbon Transmission Station (TS), where the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will carry out major maintenance on a 300MVA transformer.

The company disclosed this in a public notice issued to customers
