A woman has shared how prolonged silent treatment and malice almost collapsed her marriage within its first five years, revealing that a late-night confrontation with her husband eventually changed the course of their relationship.
The woman, whose account has gone viral on social media, explained that she struggled emotionally with silence because she grew up in a lively home where disagreements never lasted long.
According to her, despite her husband continuing his responsibilities, including eating her meals and holding her while they slept, the absence of normal conversations and banter left her emotionally unsettled.
Silent treatment almost ended marriage
“One of the things that nearly collapsed my marriage within its first five years was silent treatment and malice. At some point, my husband even proudly mentioned that he once kept malice with his sister for an entire year,” she said.
She added that the situation became unbearable after they went almost two weeks without properly speaking to each other.
“We had not properly spoken for almost two weeks and my mouth was beginning to smell to me from the silence, so I woke him up and said, ‘Divorce me.’ I even started packing my clothes because I thought he no longer wanted me around,” she narrated.
Couple resolved issues after emotional confrontation
According to her, the dramatic confrontation led to an overnight discussion where both of them openly addressed issues affecting their marriage and agreed on healthier communication patterns moving forward.
Her experience mirrors several relationship cases in recent years where marriage counsellors have warned that prolonged silence and poor communication often contribute to emotional distance and separation among couples.
The woman concluded that while her husband is still less expressive, his willingness to improve has strengthened their marriage significantly.
