Nigeria 2-0 Zimbabwe: Azeez scores brace as Nigeria reach Unity Cup final

The Super Eagles of Nigeria booked their place in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup after defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 in London on Tuesday night.

The defending champions delivered a composed performance at The Valley Stadium, with debutant Femi Azeez emerging as the star of the match after scoring both goals on his first senior appearance for the Super Eagles.

Azeez gave Nigeria an early lead in the fifth minute when he fired a powerful effort from outside the penalty area beyond the Zimbabwe goalkeeper.

The early breakthrough allowed the Super Eagles to control large parts of the opening half, with Terem Moffi and Alhassan Abdullahi both threatening to extend the advantage before the interval.

Debutants impress for Super Eagles

Zimbabwe improved after the break and attempted to push for an equaliser, but Nigeria’s defence remained organised throughout the contest.

The Super Eagles sealed victory in the 62nd minute following a quick counterattack led by Moffi.

The striker squared the ball across goal for Azeez, who calmly finished to complete his brace and put the game beyond Zimbabwe’s reach.

Several players also made their full debuts for Nigeria during the semi-final clash, including Arthur Okonkwo, who produced a confident display in goal.

Other debutants in the starting lineup included Chibueze Oputa, Obinna Igboke, Samson Tijani, Alhassan Abdullahi and Al-Ameen.

Nigeria await final opponents

Head coach Eric Chelle continued using the tournament to assess new players ahead of future international competitions.

Nigeria later introduced Tosin Oyedokun and Owen Oseni in the second half, with both players also making their senior international debuts.

The Super Eagles will now face either Jamaica or India in Saturday’s final as they attempt to retain the Unity Cup title.
