A video making the rounds on social media has captured the moment a man reacted with disbelief after he and other guests were served food on shovel-shaped plates during an event.
The unusual serving style quickly attracted attention online, with many social media users sharing mixed reactions.
While some praised the caterer’s creativity and willingness to try something different, others argued that the presentation was unnecessary and unsuitable for serving food.
In the viral clip, the man, whose voice could be heard in the background, expressed his astonishment as he displayed the shovel-shaped plate being used to serve meals at the event.
Visibly amused by the experience, he joked about how unbelievable it would have sounded if someone had told him he would one day eat from a shovel.
Displaying the shovel-shaped plate, he said:
“Omo, if they tell me say I go later use shovel take eat, I go say na lie. Omo, see the way dey take serve us with shovel. Like, e remain small make I move one of this shovel yesterday o. I nearly move am. Just move like this eh, carry stick put for the back like, omo, e don set oh. So shovel wey we take do bombo that year na him we take chop like this, omoooo.”
The video has since generated widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many users sharing humorous comments while debating whether the serving style was innovative or simply excessive.
Reacting to the video, Spindu wrote:
“Shovel plate for food?
Another user, Uyiebose, expressed strong disapproval, writing:
“SHOVEL? Never going to eat from that shit. It’s taking the man’s dignity away and putting it right into the trash. God forbid.”
Offering a humorous take, Modern Love commented:
“We went from “let me eat in peace” to “let me see if my food requires a construction permit.”
The way restaurants are fighting against actual plates in 2026 needs to be studied. If I wanted to eat off a shovel, I’d go help my uncle dig a borehole. Respectfully, take it back to the kitchen.”
Similarly, Precious wrote:
“Nigerian caterer go serve owambe rice for shovel plate and still call am ‘aesthetic’ — na the same energy dem use dig the pit toilet for back.”
Another user, Ngozwe, added:
“Hawu, the creativity is unmatched. But if I wanted to eat off a shovel, I’d go help my neighbour dig a trench. Yebo, give me a plate!”
