Algeria booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after recovering from a goal down to defeat Ivory Coast 2-1 in a dramatic quarter-final encounter.

The Elephants made the stronger start and took the lead in the 29th minute through Ines Konan, putting Algeria under pressure as they struggled to create clear chances in the opening period.

Red card changes the game

Ivory Coast’s hopes of maintaining their advantage suffered a major blow shortly before half-time when Nsira Ouedraogo was sent off in the 42nd minute.

The numerical disadvantage gave Algeria greater control after the restart, and they immediately looked more dangerous in attack. Ines Khiri was introduced at half-time and made an instant impact, scoring in the 59th minute to bring Algeria level.

Ivory Coast were handed a golden opportunity to restore their lead just three minutes later when they were awarded a penalty. However, Elloh failed to convert from the spot, leaving the scores level.

Algeria complete stunning turnaround

Algeria took full advantage of the missed opportunity and completed their comeback in the 64th minute.

Amira Ould Braham found the net after being set up by Dafeur, sending the Algerians into the lead for the first time in the contest.

With their semi-final place within reach, Algeria were forced to withstand sustained pressure from Ivory Coast during the closing stages.

The Elephants pushed forward in search of an equaliser but could not find a way past the Algerian defence.

Algeria held on to secure a 2-1 victory and advance to the last four of the 2026 WAFCON, marking their first ever semi-final qualification in the tournament.
