Man dumps Ratel, says VeryDarkMan is becoming what he criticises

A Nigerian man identified as Digital Chief Monday Bakor has announced his withdrawal from Ratel, the online movement associated with social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a lengthy statement shared online, Bakor said he decided to leave the movement because he believes it has drifted away from its principles of fairness and justice.

I’ve Officially Left Ratel – Man says

Bakor began his statement by confirming that he had formally ended his membership of the group.

He wrote:

“I have officially withdrawn my membership from Ratel.”

“A movement that claims to fight injustice must not become selfish or selective in its pursuit of justice. It should be a platform where people can express diverse opinions without being attacked, silenced, or deliberately run down simply because their views differ from those of the leadership.”

Bakor Criticises VeryDarkMan’s Leadership Style

Bakor also took aim at VeryDarkMan, alleging that the activist has increasingly displayed leadership traits similar to those he regularly criticises in politicians.

He argued that leadership should not be treated as dictatorship and that no leader’s opinion should be beyond criticism.

He wrote:

“From my observations, VeryDarkMan has increasingly displayed tendencies that, in my view, are difficult to distinguish from the very political leadership styles he criticises every day.”

He added:

“Power is a litmus test of character. If someone demonstrates this level of pride and intolerance before attaining political power, one is left wondering what the future might look like if such influence becomes even greater.”

Raises Concerns Over Privacy

Bakor further expressed concern about the handling of confidential information, saying public figures should be careful with issues shared in confidence.

He wrote:

“Words have consequences. Careless public outbursts can damage reputations, relationships and even homes. You cannot encourage people to confide in you if they cannot be confident that their private matters will remain protected.”

‘I Have No Personal Beef With VDM’

Despite his criticism, Bakor said he harbours no personal grudge against VeryDarkMan.

He disclosed that he had previously supported the activist’s campaigns and even donated to his NGO because he admired his fight against fraud, fake products and the exploitation of Nigerians.

However, he said it was important to reassess the direction of the movement.

“I have no personal beef with VDM. In fact, I once supported many of his ideas and even made contributions to his NGO account.”

He concluded by urging Nigerians to reject what he described as selective justice.

“We must not support selective justice simply because we agree with the person delivering it.

“Say NO to selective justice.”
