Daveigh Chase, an American actor most remembered for her iconic performance as the long-haired ghost who crawls out of the television in The Ring, died of sepsis, her longtime manager John Ryan Jr. told BBC News on Wednesday. She was 35.
Ryan stated that Chase had been brought to the hospital for malnutrition prior to her death.
Chase died on Tuesday of complications from meningitis, which progressed to a bloodstream infection and, eventually, sepsis.
“She was the greatest.” She adored cats. She collaborated with us on cat rescue efforts. Ryan, Chase’s 15-year pal and manager, described her as a reclusive individual who preferred indie ventures over studio pictures. “She’d like to eat at Bob’s Big Boy and return home with the pets. She enjoyed acting but was not interested in the famous scene.
Chase’s breakout role was Samara Morgan, the long-haired ghost that comes out of the television in the horror film The Ring, an American version of the Japanese classic about a videotape that kills people who view it.
She won an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain in 2003 for her eerie, demon-like performance.
Chase stated that she enjoyed playing such a wicked character.
“This is not the average character. Typically, they are searching for a happy-go-lucky kid, but Samara was an intriguing role to play. “I just took my own voice and gave it this freaky twist,” she told the Los Angeles Times in 2002.
The same year, she played the Elvis-obsessed Hawaiian girl Lilo in the animated film Lilo & Stitch. The role garnered her an Annie Award for Best portray Acting in an Animated Feature Production, and she returned to portray the character in subsequent spin-offs.
