England midfielder Jordan Henderson will remain with the national team for the rest of the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite suffering a serious arm injury during the team’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico, according to his father, Brian Henderson.

The veteran midfielder sustained the injury after falling over advertising boards while celebrating England’s Round of 16 victory at the Azteca Stadium.

Henderson was later stretchered off and taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Father reveals extent of injury

Speaking to Mail Online, Brian Henderson disclosed that the injury was more severe than initially feared but insisted his son has no intention of leaving the England camp.

“It’s his left forearm – he’s just completely smashed it. He’s going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say. He won’t be leaving his team-mates. He’ll be there until it’s finished.”»

Brian said he initially believed the incident was minor before television pictures showed Henderson receiving medical treatment.

“At first I just thought he’d fallen. I thought he’d maybe scraped his wrist. I had no idea it was that serious until they were interviewing Harry Kane and a trolley came past with Jordan on it. I could see him on there with oxygen and things.”

He added that he immediately sought updates from Henderson’s representatives while waiting for news from doctors.

“Straight away, I messaged his PA, who was over there, to try and find out what had happened. I was up all night waiting to hear the news. It’s just a waiting game now.”

Midfielder vows to support England

While the rest of Thomas Tuchel’s squad returned to their training base in Kansas City, Henderson remained in Mexico City to undergo surgery on the fractured forearm.

The 35-year-old has made one appearance at this World Cup, coming off the bench in England’s 2-0 victory over Panama during the group stage.

Despite being ruled out of further action, Henderson struck a positive tone in a message posted after England’s victory.

“A night to remember that’s for sure! What an incredible performance against all the different challenges. So proud to be a part of this special team. Thanks for all the support, another big one Saturday.”

England will face Norway in the World Cup quarter-finals, with Erling Haaland’s side advancing after a surprise victory over Brazil.
