Evita Starring Rachel Zegler Set for Broadway in Spring 2027

AdminBy AdminApril 29, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

Evita starring Rachel Zegler is coming to Broadway in spring 2027.

The production, directed by Jamie Lloyd, comes to Broadway after a critically acclaimed West End Run at the London Palladium. Zegler will reprise her role as Eva Perón at a Shubert theater to be announced. Additional casting has not yet been announced.

In London, the show famously had a scene in which Zegler would stand on the theater balcony and sing “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” to crowds gathered outside the theater. Lloyd said that will not be possible in New York (the team has previously expressed concerns about safety) but said it would be restaged for Broadway.

“I was completely overwhelmed by the incredible response to Evita in London. It is an honor to work with Tim and Andrew, and I’m looking forward to revisiting the production with Rachel, whose stellar performance continues to inspire me. When we started discussing a New York production, it became apparent that our Palladium staging of ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ would not be possible. I am really excited to explore a new idea, made especially for Broadway,” Lloyd said.

The revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, which premiered in London in 1978, reimagines the rock opera in more of a concert setting, with Zegler, as Peron, who becomes the controversial First Lady of Argentina, strutting up and down sets of stairs alongside modern, athletic choreography. This is the second Lloyd Webber musical Lloyd has revamped for Broadway, after taking a minimalist approach to Sunset Blvd.

The first Broadway production, starring Patti LuPone, opened in 1979 and won seven Tony Awards, including for best musical. The show was previously revived on Broadway in 2012. And was adapted into a movie starring Madonna.

Zegler returns to Broadway after starring in Romeo + Juliet, alongside Kit Connor from September 2024 through February 2025. She recently won an Olivier Award for her performance in Evita.

“Performing Tim Rice and Andrew  Lloyd Webber’s brilliant show in London was a dream come true, but being able to partner once again with Jamie to bring  Evita to  Broadway is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  I can’t wait  to perform for my home, New York City,” Zegler said.

“I am delighted to see Jamie Lloyd’s extraordinary production of Evita head to Broadway. It is so exciting to see Tim and my work reimagined in new ways, and the show has a generational talent in Rachel Zegler. I can’t wait for American audiences to experience a production which took the West End by storm,” Lloyd Webber said.
