I was sacked for refusing to lead opening prayer – Man cries out over workplace discrimination

A Nigerian man has sparked widespread reactions online after claiming he lost a newly secured job because he declined to lead the company’s opening prayer.

In a now-viral video shared on TikTok, he explained that he had resumed work just a day earlier when, as the newest employee, he was asked to lead the morning prayer.

According to him, he politely declined, explaining that he had deconstructed from Christianity and no longer identifies with the faith.

“I told them, no, I can’t, because I had already deconstructed from Christianity, and I don’t believe in all that,” he said.

He claimed his response was met with awkward stares from colleagues, but he did not think much of it until the following day.

Upon arriving at work, he said he was instructed to check his email, where he allegedly discovered that his employment had been terminated.

Expressing disappointment, the man questioned whether the decision reflected Christian values, arguing that such treatment could discourage anyone considering returning to the faith.

“I’ve been sad because I don’t understand. Is that even Christ-like behavior? Even if I had wanted to go back into Christianity, with this attitude, do they think one will? It’s actually crazy. I have the degree and skills and am honestly fed up,” he added.

The incident has since ignited debate on social media, with many users questioning whether religious beliefs should influence employment decisions.
