A man has sparked debate online after recounting how a disagreement between his wife and a female colleague over the front passenger seat of his car ended in an unexpected confrontation.
According to him, he usually drives his wife home from work. However, after a female colleague realised they headed in the same direction, she began hitching rides with him and would always occupy the front passenger seat because she got into the car first.
In his words, he said:
“My wife firmly believes the front seat belongs to her. Every time she gets in the car, she expects my colleague to climb out and move to the back.
A few days ago, my wife opened the front door and ordered my colleague to move back. She didn’t want a scene, so she calmly moved. I was dying of embarrassment.”
The man said the situation escalated when his colleague eventually refused to give up the seat, insisting only the car owner had the right to ask her to move.
Rather than intervene, he said he stayed silent because he believed his colleague had every right to remain in the front seat.
“She looked my wife dead in the eye and said, ‘Madam, this is not your car, so stop being childish. I know he is your husband, but he is the only one with the right to ask me to move. I’m not sitting in the back unless he tells me to’”
My wife refused to get into the car and walked away. She took a public bus home and has been giving me the silent treatment ever since. Who is in the wrong here?” he added.
The story has generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users divided over whether the wife deserved the front seat or the colleague was right to stand her ground.
