Disney and Pixar unwrapped a major box office gift with Toy Story 5, which is headed toward the biggest opening of the year so far of $160 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, it is pulling in $152 million, for a global start of $312 million.
Both the domestic and global launch numbers are the biggest of 2026 so far, topping the Super Mario Bros. Galaxy movie, which had a three-day launch of $130.9 million domestically in April. (It opened two days early for the Easter holidays and boasted a five-day number of $190.1 million.)
It’s also a record for the franchise, topping Toy Story 4‘s $120.9 million launch in 2019.
Audiences gave Toy Story 5 an A CinemaScore. Toy Story veteran Andrew Stanton directs, with Kenna Harris co-directing.
Steven Spielberg and Universal’s original sci-fi feature Disclosure Day is falling 62 percent and is expected to earn around $17 million in its second weekend after opening to $44 million. It will end the weekend with a domestic tally of about $78.2 million and $160.4 million globally.
In its sixth outing, Focus Features’ box office sensation Obsession will finally post a weekend gross smaller than its opening of $17.2 million, and is expected to pull in around $14 million for a domestic total of around $215 million. It long ago became Focus’ No. 1 movie of all time both domestically and globally, where it has passed $300 million.
A24’s Backrooms continues to bring in business, is pulling in $7.3 million for a total domestic haul of $175.1 million and a global total of $301 million after launching in May.
New entries this weekend include Neon horror feature Leviticus. The well-regarded Sundance horror title is looking to bring in around $3 million, while A24’s Hugh Jackman starrer The Death of Robin Hood is eying around $2.6 million. Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One filmmaker Michael Sarnoski is behind the project, which tells the story of Robin Hood’s later days.
