The Nigerian military has confirmed that Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac lost his life during the operation that successfully rescued 44 abducted pupils and teachers from the Old Oyo National Park.

According to reports, the 28-year-old Nigerian Army officer paid the ultimate sacrifice while participating in the coordinated rescue mission. He was laid to rest the same day in accordance with military tradition.

The rescued pupils and teachers were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State before security operatives secured their freedom on July 10, 2026, after spending 56 days in captivity.

While announcing the successful operation, the Nigerian Army disclosed that some security personnel lost their lives during the mission.

“It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damages and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” the statement read.

The confirmation of Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac’s death has since drawn tributes from Nigerians, with many describing him as a courageous and selfless officer who gave his life in the line of duty.

Below are some of the tributes paid to the fallen officer:

Oyo Affairs wrote: “Here is one of the officers Governor Seyi Makinde mentioned, who paid the supreme sacrifice while trying to rescue the abducted Oriire teachers and schoolchildren. May his soul rest in peace. 💔 Tributes pour in for 28-year-old Army lieutenant killed during rescue of abducted Oyo schoolchildren”
